Is estate planning for me?

I’m still pretty young. I don’t see why I need a Will.

No one can predict the future, and an estate plan is more than finances. Leave your belongings to those who will cherish them, and ensure your family and pets are cared for.

I don’t own anything of value or have a lot of money to warrant a Will.

Whether you have $3,000 or $300,000, no one but you should decide what you do with your money. A Will lets you decide what you want to happen to your stuff.

I already have a Guardianship Nomination for my kids, so I don’t need a Will.

A Guardianship Nomination lets you express your wishes over who you want to care for your children if something happens to you. Unlike a Will, it is not binding in the Court and doesn’t determine what happens to your property or finances.

Still have questions?

Do I need to speak to an attorney before starting a digital estate plan?

There is no requirement that you need an attorney to help you create your estate plan. However, an attorney can help answer any questions you might have. Whether an attorney is necessary at some point in the process will also vary from person to person.

Does a Will let me bypass probate court?

No. A Will names your executor and directs them on how you want to distribute your assets. Your Will must be proven valid in court before your executor can follow your instructions. The process where the judge approves your Will is called probate.

Is a Will the same thing as a Trust?

No, but they serve a similar purpose. A Revocable Trust lets you avoid probate. A Will must go through the probate process after you pass away. A Revocable Trust can “hold” your assets during your life and lets you name a trustee who will distribute them after you pass away without involving the court.

How long does it take to receive my estate plan?

With the Will Plan, you can download your plan as soon as it’s finished or request a 1-time complimentary printing and mailing.

How often do I have to update my estate plan?

It is always a good idea to review your estate plan every few years to make sure it’s up to date and includes any major life changes, such as marriage, birth or adoption of children and changes to your own health and wealth.
